FED: Government urges Aussies to donate "gift of life"

The federal government will create a national scheme for organ and tissue donation
.. in which hospital staff will encourage more people to donate.

The scheme .. based on a successful US model .. will seek to recruit hospital staff
to participate in workshops that develop the most successful approach to organ donations.

The project is aimed at lifting the conversion rate of potential donors into actual donors.

Health Minister TONY ABBOTT says he's hoping to sign up 20 major hospitals under the scheme.
