Jan. 14--TOKYO -- Online shopping mall operator Rakuten Inc. and broadband service provider NTT-Resonant Inc. have launched new services featuring popular South Korean actor Bae Yong Joon to attract his middle-aged and senior female fans in Japan who are not necessarily familiar with the Internet.
Rakuten began Friday selling never-before-published posters, photo cards and stickers of Bae selected by the actor himself via the Internet. NTT-Resonant started broadcasting Bae's commercial images via its "goo" Internet portal site from Thursday free of charge.
Rakuten is the only online seller of official Bae goods, although they are sold in some outlets of major supermarket chains in Japan.
Three posters of Bae, measuring 90.6 centimeters by 60.5 cm, are priced at 8,950 yen, while a set of eight photo cards and a sticker is sold at 4,950 yen.
Rakuten President Hiroshi Mikitani expressed a wish to employ Bae as the company's advertising pillar.
NTT-Resonant said those who have access to the "goo" portal site operated by the NTT unit can also download production images of Bae's photo books for free from February.
NTT-Resonant has been broadcasting numerous South Korean dramas featuring Bae and has seen the number of female subscribers to its services soar on his popularity, its officials said.
