Qld: Milk tanker crash disrupts rail services

BRISBANE, Feb 15 AAP - A fully-laden milk tanker crashed onto the rail line at Ipswichearly today, buckling 100m of track and disrupting rail services to Brisbane.

Ipswich Police Senior Constable John McNab said the driver of a tanker carrying 25,000litres of milk failed to negotiate a turn from Railway St into Cook St about 3.10am (AEST).

He said the tanker went down an embankment onto the track between the Booval and theEast Ipswich stations, west of Brisbane.

The tanker ruptured, spilling milk onto the tracks, and the driver was taken to IpswichGeneral Hospital with shock and minor injuries.

A Queensland Rail spokesman said rail services from Rosewood, Ipswich and Bundambato Brisbane would not be operating normally until at least 9.30am (AEST).

He said the track at Booval would not be open until at least 11.30am (AEST).

Meanwhile, the spokesman said rail services from Doomben, on Brisbane's northside,had been disrupted this morning after a pedestrian was killed when hit by train.

A police spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances.
